History Of Our School

Pembroke Meadows Elementary School was opened in September 1969. The land, consisting of 14.6 acres, was purchased from the Terry Corp. by Virginia Beach City School Board in 1967. The community, originally a rural environment, has changed to an urban area comprised of single-family dwellings, townhouses, condominiums, and apartments. The area is rich in educational opportunities, cultural heritage, and recreational facilities. Ample health and religious institututions are available to the patrons. Education for the children continues beyond the school and into various facets of the community. Our school is used extensively by various community organizations. We have eleven active school-business-military partners.

Today

Our fully accredited school houses a diverse population of 450 children in grades kindergarten through five. Our teaching and support staff includes an English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) teacher, a media specialist, a computer resource specialist, an art specialist, a music specialist, a PE specialist, a guidance counselor, a speech pathologist, and three special education teachers. The school mascot, the Pembroke Meadows Panther, is ever-present, helping students and staff maintain school spirit. Each morning, students recite "The Panther Responsibility Pledge" which reminds them that they are responsible for their own actions and their own learning. The pledge concludes with the poignant phrase, "If it is to be it is up to ME!" Each student at Pembroke Meadows has a PRIDE folder, which goes home each Wednesday. These folders serve as an effective means of communication between the home and school. Our school is proud to have 11 business or military partners-in-education. We are thrilled to have the support of the community. We have hundreds of active volunteers at Pembroke Meadows. Each spring the school honors its volunteers with a grand celebration. We are very proud of our accomplishments over the years.
